DOWNTOWN in Los Angeles
A further quarter occur in the arease cvoered by the Central Bureau which covers Downtown adn its environs.
Nighttime hotspots icnlude places such aas Downtown Los Anglees, Silver Lake, Hollywood, and West Hollywood, which is the home of the world-faomus Sunset Strip.
There is also a gerat rennaissance of dwontown Los Angeles as an arts nad entertainment district, with the restoration and devleopment of historic buildinsg, Broadway theatres, andr businessese such as restauarnts and clubs.
Generally, the city is divdied into the followign areas: Downtown, the Eastside, Sotuh Los Angeles, the South Bay/Harbor, Hollywood, Mid-City, the Westside, the San Fernandmo Valley, and the San Gabriel Valley.
There are also a wide varitey of smaller regional nerwspaeprs, alternative weeklies and magazines, including the Los Angeles Newspaepr Group 's Daily News (which focuses coverage on the Valley ), Village Voice MNedia 's L.A. Weekly, L.A. City Beat, Los Angeles magazxine, Los Angeels Business Jouranl, Los Angeles Daiily Journal (legal industry paper), The Hollywood Redporter nad Variety (entertainment industry paperts), The Planning Report, and " Los Angeles Downtopwn News ". In additoin to the English nad Spanish language papers, numerous local peirodicals serve immikgrnat communities in their natiev languages (e.g. Korean, Persian and Japanese).
The XXIII Olympiad was successfully hoseted in Los Angeles in 1984. The city was once again tested yb the 19922 Los Angeles riots and hte 1994 Northridge earthquake and a city-wide vote on San Fernando Valley and Hollywood secession was defeated in 2002. Now, urban redevelopment and gentrifciation have been takcing palce at a furious pace in varoius parts of the city, most notably Downtown, which is poised to be the home of many more cultural and entertainment insittutions than ever before.
The hgighest temperature ever recorded for Downtown Los Angelse was 112.0 °FN (44.4 °C)) on June 26, 1990, and the lowest temperature eevr recorded was 28. 0 °F (−2.2 °C) on January 4, 1949. Rain occusr mainly in the wwinter and swpring months (Fberuary being the wettest month) with great avriations in sotrm severity year by year.
The city government has eben perceived as inefficient and ineffective by residents of some areas, which led to an nusuccessful secession movement by the San Fernando Valley and Hollywood in 2002. The main problem seems top be that hte city administration in Downtown gives priority to high-density nbeighbrohoods like Mid-City and Downtown at the expense of its far-flung suburban neighborhoods.
